Uniform/Defined Dress Code

What is a Defined Dress Code (DDC)?

BMA has adopted what we call a Defined Dress Code (DDC), which applies to Edison Hall during school hours on school days. During classes and while in Edison Hall, students are required to be in DDC. DDC includes short and long-sleeve polo shirts in a variety of colors, long-sleeve Oxford shirts, jackets, and V-neck sweaters and vests. All these items are embroidered with the BMA logo. DDC also includes pants, skirts, and shorts. Acceptable shoe styles for school dress are casual dress shoes, tennis shoes, and sandals with a heel strap (no flip flops or slides).

Blue Mountain Academy’s Defined Dress Code (DDC/Uniform) is neat, clean and modest.

Polos/Oxford Shirts

Polo/Oxford Shirts – Polo shirts with the BMA logo from Schoolbelles are the required school shirts and are available in various colors in short or long sleeves. (A plain long-sleeve shirt may be worn underneath). Polo or Oxford shirts from Schoolbelles must be worn as the outer layer or under a uniform jacket or uniform sweater: please refer to the Schoolbelles sizing chart online.

Jackets/V-Neck Sweaters/Vests

Jackets/V-Neck Sweaters – These items from Schoolbelles with the BMA logo are acceptable in the ad building and can be worn as the outer layer with a uniform polo or Oxford worn underneath. Hoodies, sweatshirts, and non-Schoolbelles jackets/coats are not acceptable as school dress.

Pants/Shorts/Skirts

These items from Schoolbelles are acceptable in the ad building. Pants or shorts purchased from other stores must meet BMA dress code requirements. Jeans, denim, corduroy, sweatpants, cargo pants, leggings, and pajamas are not considered school dress. Pants purchased from other stores must be black, navy blue, or tan khaki uniform pants. Pants should not be off shades of brown, rust, etc... *

Pants should not be excessively baggy. They should not be ‘skinny’, tight or have a jean- type look. Uniform pants should not have patch pockets or attached to the outside. They should have inset pockets that are cut into the pants.

Girls may wear tan khaki (0027) or navy skirts (0015) from Schoolbelles. The skirt length is to come to the middle of the knee and must not come above the knee when seated.

Schoolbelle Sizes

Schoolbelles is the uniform company BMA uses for parents to purchase BMA approved uniforms. The sizing on their website is a bit different from store bought sizes. When purchasing from schoolbelle please refer to their sizing chart (each type of pants has its own sizing chart). It is best to use waist/height measurement to know the size needed. Failure or inability to comply normally will result in students being given a “DDC” violation. If it is a serious dress code infraction, the student will be sent to the dorm, or a call may be made to their parents to correct the situation and the student may receive additional disciplinary action. If you have any questions regarding the dress code, please contact the school office or administration for clarification. Ask before you purchase any item you are uncertain may not comply with dress code. We are happy to give guidance to avoid dress code violations. Parents and students have the primary responsibility to understand and adhere to the dress code. We hope this email clarification will allow you time to buy the right uniform pants for your child during the holiday break.

Ad Building School Attire (DDC) Alternatives:

During the cooler months of the school year, a short-sleeve DDC polo shirt from Schoolbelles may not be enough to keep your child warm in the ad building during school hours.

There are several acceptable options to help keep your child warm:

  • Purchase long-sleeve DDC polo shirts from Schoolbelles.

  • Wear Under Armor, thermals, turtlenecks, long-sleeve shirt, etc. UNDER the BMA DDC polo shirt.

  • Purchase the BMA DDC jacket (embroidered first name is optional).

  • Hoodies are NOT acceptable under DDC polos

Students are allowed to wear a winter coat to the ad building but are asked to store it in their locker during school hours.
